"A Text-Based Adventure Game Like No Other" (Gabriel)"Most text-based games are made like hobbies. Trinket accomplishments for the coder or a test of this or that. Being able to code a game is a snap, but making an excellent one is very hard; I've tried creating one myself. Avalon has been around since 1989. Who can compete with that much research, that much effort, that much writing? The text is like reading a book! Each day's a new discovery... I feel like Columbus when I walk around the land. So beautiful. So detailed. Avalon has no comparison, no matter what someone else says (they just haven't played it). Playing it for over three years now, and with lots of experience with other games, both text-based and graphical, I say without a second thought that Avalon is the biggest and best adventure game. So come and try it, because more the merrier! *wink*" - Wench Gabriel, the Buxom Blonde
"A Game Of Highest Caliber" (Moregrath)"Text-based games are in my blood. I played dungeons and dragons when I was a kid and GURPS when I was older. Growing out of it pretty quickly, I didn't know what to do. I guess I was looking for something a bit more involving, a bit more sophistocated. Then I used AltaVista and came across Avalon some years ago. I couldn't believe it. A few hours, then a few days, then a few months. I was hooked: I couldn't just beat Avalon, like other games. The text was better than any GM. The game itself was amazingly detailed, but easy to follow. It is like an onion, with loads of layers. You think you peeled off the last one, but there's just another. I'd recommend Avalon above all other text-based games... No, in fact, I'd suggest it to anyone (I already got my 48 year-old father addicted!)." - Night Hunter Moregrath, the Necromancer
"An Adventure of Unlimited Scope" (Ategenos)"Avalon was my first introduction to the realm of text-based games, happening upon it while scouring the internet for a game to fill the void after completing whichever RPG I'd just begun the week before. I was young and inexperienced then, but here I am, six years later, still fascinated by the unlimited scope of the First Age. What struck me when I first started, which I have reaffirmed over the years, was the inherent balance of the game. The differences between guilds, professions and cities was stylistic in nature. Every player has the same opportunity as the next. Every player starts out the same, and what we become over time is our choice. Avalon is bounded only by the limits of our own imaginations. We, the players, decide the course of the game -- I have yet to discover any game on any platform that can offer the same promise and keep it with such marvellous poise and enthusiasm." - The Soul of Ategenos
"Other Games Don't Stand a Chance" (Poseidon)"I never thought much of 'text-based' games, since they don't have any graphics... Until a friend introduced me to Avalon, the First Age. Nearly 4 years later, I am still addicted. It is the only text-based game I will ever play, simply because it is the best. The combat system is amazing, the quests are countless and the realm is always expanding. There is something for everyone, whether you are the merciless Sorcerer or a passionate Animist. Not only does this game revolve around players fighting, but also the war of seeing stones, political struggles and warfare between cities, where whole legions battle it out. If you are not playing Avalon, then you are missing out. Don't waste your time with other adventure games. They simply don't stand a chance." - Poseidon, the Enosichton
